Some people are motivated by words, and others need a reward or a bonus to get something done in the best way. Knowing what motivates each member of your team will result in better individual and team performance. Therefore, leaders should be acquainted with the different kinds of motivation and with the personal preferences of their employees.

Here are some terms. Intrinsic motivation comes from the inside of an individual; for example, a person might simply have the desire to fulfil a task. On the other hand, extrinsic motivation means that the source of motivation is external to the person. In general, it is believed that deep-rooted desires have the highest motivational power. Intrinsic motivation is stimulated by acceptance, curiosity, honour, contact. Simply saying “Well done!” and “Thank you!” sometimes does miracles in terms of performance. However, a reward, a bonus, as well as non-financial benefits, may have the same result.

In terms of intrinsic motivation, it is important that people always feel content whenever they fulfil a task successfully. However, managers can use that feeling and ensure that all employees are satisfied with their work and are motivated to achieve the organisation’s goals. In addition, employers should approach their workers individually and make team members feel appreciated. Finally, it is essential to guarantee that employees are treated equally. These simple rules and terms are crucial for improving the motivation of a team.
